Join us this week on Capital Thinking with guest host Scott Weber as we talk about benefit corporations, a new class of businesses with a mission to dedicate monies and resources to create social well-being, such as sustainability. Maryland pioneered in the effort of creating benefit corporations by signing it into law in April, 2010. What is benefit corporations? Who benefits from it? How can you get involved? To answer these questions and more, we are joined by Lester S. (Casey) Willson, Retail Industry and Sustainability Programs Manager at the University of Maryland Small Business Development Center; Laura E. Jordan, a lawyer with The Capital Law Firm and Pennye Jones-Napier, owner of the Big Bad Woof in Takoma Park, Maryland, and the first business in the nation to become a benefit corporation. Together, they will explain this game changing business structure, its legality and economic impact and what is expected in the future.
