TGT – Mage Intro: Welcome to the Legend of the Innkeeper. We’re glad you could join us for our 66th episode. This week we are talking about… TGT Mage decks Updates: What did you do this week? News Warsong Commander is changing http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/forum/topic/19288409377 Card text will now read, “Your charge minions have +1 Attack.” Ben Brode discussed this on YouTube. Here were his main points (Ben Brode talking about Warsong Commander https://youtu.be/PprkXykU5xM ) Warriors are already pretty low on the Arena tier list, and this change does take them down further. This will have to be addressed in future sets. Charge and Direct Damage are two of the least fun things in Hearthstone. You can’t react to them, you must be proactive. They wanted to make the card less complicated because it is in the basic set. Warsong Commander was nerfed instead of Grim Patron or Frothing Berserker because the biggest issue now, and going forward, was Warsong. It was important to keep the identity of the card intact as much as possible. They tried 30 or 40 different designs to see which ones felt the best for the card. Dreadsteed was originally going to be released in Naxxramas as a Neutral Minion. Warsong Commander prevented that due to their interaction. Hearthstone officially heading to Japan Blizzard Hearthstone passes DOTA 2 in Twitch’s most watched games for September http://venturebeat.com/2015/10/06/hearthstone-overtakes-dota-2-in-twitchs-most-watched-games-of-september/ This moved it up the rankings to #3, just behind League of Legends and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Choose a class, get random cards. Each turn your cards’ costs are randomized! Pre-constructed decks of your chosen class. Cards in your hand can and will change their cost each turn. “Turn 2 Onyxia” “Turn 3 Alex” I’ve seen a bunch and I loved it. Allows for an easy win, or a long, drawn out random battle to the end. Getting Better Mage TGT Cards – slideshow [Dalaran Aspirant ]- 4 mana, 3 / 5 minion, Inspire: Gain Spell Damage +1 Good combinations – Fencing Coach (3 mana, 2 / 2 minion, Battlecry: The next time you use your Hero power it costs (2) less); Garrison Commander (2 mana, 2 / 3 minion, You can use your Hero Power twice a turn.); Coldarra Drake (6 mana, 6 / 6 minion, You can use your Hero Power any number of times.); Maiden of the Lake (4 mana, 2 / 6 minion, Your Hero Power costs (1) one.) High target of Silence. Best value if you can get 2 Inspires off Recommendation: You will likely only want to use this card when you have a few other Spell Damage cards in your deck or if you are including other Neutral cards that take advantage of Inspire. [Flame Lance] – 5 mana, Deal 8 damage to a minion So the negative is that this only does damage to minions However, it lets you take out big minions like Ragnaros, Dr. Boom, Alexstraza, etc. for 5 mana. In comparison to Polymorph, Polymorph would remove any Deathrattle effects while leaving a 1 health sheep on the board where this would trigger them the Deathrattle. Can combine this with Spell Damage to get more power. For example, this combined with Bloodmage Thalnos, would let you remove a 9 health minion from the board for 6. Recommendation: I wouldn’t run more than one of these in my decks. However, I would use it alongside Polymorph. [Fallen Hero] – 2 mana, 3 / 2 minion, Your Hero Power deals 1 extra damage The biggest issue with this card is that it doesn’t have a lot of health. It’s not a card that is going to stick around for a long time. The benefit is really limited. However, this can be a used with other classes too if you happened to get it out of a Shredder or Unstable Portal. Both the Hunter and Warlock Hero Powers are affected. The Priest can gain benefit if they are in Shadowform or using Auchani Soulpriest. (And yes, the Warlock’s Lifetap will do 3 damage) When used with the Garrison Commander (2 mana, 2 / 3 minion, You can use your Hero Power twice a turn.), this becomes a lot more powerful. When used with the Coldarra Drake (6 mana, 6 / 6 minion, You can use your Hero Power any number of times.) it’s extremely powerful, on your next turn. Ideal if you get the drake out of a Shredder or in combination of a Emperor T. Recommendation: Useful in limited situations. Not going to be a card you include without purpose. But could be powerful in the circumstances. [Spellslinger] – 3 mana, 3 / 4 minion, Battlecry: Add a random spell to each player’s hand. As mentioned before, this is a must have inclusion to your fun RNG mage deck. I think in regular play it’s a decent card but adds a lot of RNG to the game. So if you don’t like RNG that might benefit your opponent, don’t use it. One way to help mitigate the damage a random spell can do to you from your opponent is to play Counterspell or Spellbender with this card. That gives you a chance to negate the effect that putting a spell in your opponent’s hand might have against you. It’s a strong card in general with the 4 health on the board. Some of the potential negatives would be 1) giving your opponent a card where they can do significant damage to you 2) giving you a spell that you can’t use, like Deadly Poison or Tinker’s Sharpsword Oil. Recommendation: I’d give this serious consideration. I’ve been including it in just about any deck I create because I love RNG. However, if you want to have a more solid idea of what you have in your deck along with no nasty surprises from your opponent using a spell from another class, then avoid this. [Effigy] – 3 mana, Secret: When a friendly minion dies, summon a random minion with the same Cost. In my opinion, one of the best Mage cards in TGT, because of the fun factor and usability. This is the Unstable Portal for minions. I think it’s pretty obvious that it’s better a minion you have on the board when you play this secret, the better your results will be. However, playing this in combination with the Kirin Tor Mage is not a bad option. One of the fun combinations is playing Effigy, then on your next turn playing Rhonin. Your opponent races to remove Rhonin from the board, which puts 3 Arcane Missiles in your hand and then Effigy brings back another 8 mana minion on the board. Make a deck with 2x Unstable Portals, 2x Effigy, 2x Spellslingers = 6 x the fun! This makes cards like Piloted Shredder even more dangerous. Recommendation: Absolutely include this card in every deck! Craft 2 of them if you don’t have them. [Polymorph: Boar] – 3 mana, Transform a minion into a 4/2 boar with Charge. At first glance, my opinion of this card was, meh. However the more I consider it the more useful it could be. There are two ways to use this card effectively. 1. Polymorph one of your opponent’s minions to turn it into the boar. Turning your opponent’s Emperor Thaursian or Ragnaros into a Boar is a good thing. They don’t get any benefit from the Charge function because they aren’t playing the card. It’s just a 2 health minion on the board. Plus you might have the ability to kill a 2 health minion as opposed to a 8 health minion. 2. Using this on one of your minions after attacking with it. Because the new boar has Charge, you get to attack with it a second time! So if you get your opponent down to 4 or less health, this is a game winner for only 3 mana. Recommendation: Hard to say on this one. I might start trying to fit this into my decks. I hadn’t given it a lot of serious consideration prior to this research. [Arcane Blast] – 1 mana, Deal 2 damage to a minion. This spell gets double bonus from Spell Damage. Keyword – ‘to a minion’ – So even if you stack this up and max it out, the most you can do is 12 damage to a single minion (Deathwing). However, you can do 12 damage to a single minion for 1 mana. How? Malygos. Malygos adds 5 spell damage, which this card will double, equalling 12 damage. (2 damage + 5 Spell Damage + 5 Spell Damage) Of course that’s the extreme option. The more frequent realistic option is adding this card to a spell damage deck and taking advantage of your spell damage minions. Even just a single +1 Spell Damage on the board gives this spell 4 damage for 1 mana. Another good combination is with the new TGT card Dalaran Aspirant (4 mana, 3 / 5 minion, Inspire: Gain Spell Damage +1). Used together you could stack up quite a bit of damage, if the Dalaran Aspirant can survive long enough or not be silenced. But this isn’t a combination that I expect to be very viable. Recommendation: If you have a lot of spell damage minions, you should add this to the deck. If you have Malygos in your deck, you might want to play it. [Coldarra Drake] – 6 mana, 6 / 6 minion, You can use your Hero Power any number of times. We’ve already mentioned this a few times and it’s clearly a potentially powerful card especially if used in combination with a few other cards like: Fallen Hero – (2 mana, 3 / 2 minion, Your Hero Power deals 1 extra damage) and Maiden of the Lake (4 mana, 2 / 6 minion, Your Hero Power costs (1) one.) It’s a huge sticky minion with 6 health and a big threat with 6 attack. Plus a target for Silence. But where it really comes into it’s own, is in combination with Inspire cards. If you have a card that benefits from using your Hero Power and you can play this with 2+ Hero Power uses, you get that much more benefit from that card. Limitation: The 6 mana cost means that you aren’t likely to get many uses of your Hero Power before you run out of mana and then your opponent does something about this card. It’s a Dragon! Yes you can use it as a catalyst for Dragon based cards. I don’t have any Recommendation: If you have cards that benefit from having Dragons, include it. If you have cards that benefit from Inspire, include it. Beyond that, it’s hit or miss. [Rhonin] – 8 mana, 7 / 7 minion, Deathrattle: Add 3 copies of Arcane Missiles to your hand Rhonin by himself at first glance isn’t a card you look at and say, WOW. But when you really think about what he brings to the game, it’s really impressive. By himself, if nothing else he’s going to give you 9 damage with the Arcane Missiles plus your opponent having to remove him from the board (if he’s not silenced.) A target for Big Game Hunter Creates card advantage Slow card in that it takes time to get value from it. So not likely to be used in Tempo Mage decks. If you use him in combination with a variety of other cards, you get massive benefit. Combo # 1 – Archmage Antonidas (7 mana, 5 / 7 minion, Whenever you cast a spell, add a ‘Fireball’ spell to your hand.). Of course you have to get Rhonin on the board, have him killed and then Uncle Tony out to capitalize, but if you do, you get 3 Fireballs in your hand after all is done. Combo # 2 – Manawyrm or Flamewaker – Most likely you will have already used Manawyrm by this point in the game, but if you haven’t, that’s going to end with a 4/3 Manawyrm after having done 9 points of damage. With Flamewaker, you will get another 6 points of damage to random enemies. Combo # 3 – Gazlowe (6 mana, 3 / 6 minion, Whenever you cast a 1-mana spell, add a random Mech to your hand). i think you can see where we are heading with this combination. That’s 3 more cheap 1 cost spells for Gazlowe fun. Recommendation: By itself I might not put it in a deck, because of his weakness to Silence. If you combine him with one of the ones listed above, it would be a perfect inclusion. Should you craft him? If you have Gazlowe or Uncle Tony and love playing Mage, Yes!
