Margarito showed some rust after four years out of the ring. He was knocked down in round six, but almost stopped Paez in round ten. Scores were 95-94, 97-93 and 96-93 for “The Tijuana Tornado.” Browne stops Chagaev in ten to win WBA heavyweight world title Unbeaten heavyweight Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (24-0, 21 KOs) came off the canvas to score a sudden and explosive tenth round TKO to dethrone reigning WBA regular heavyweight world champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-3-1, 21 KOs) on Saturday night at the Colosseum Sport Hall in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia. The pace was slow early as the taller Browne mostly worked from the outside. Chagaev dropped Browne hard in round six. A battered and bleeding Browne barely survived the round, which seemed about ten seconds too long. The gutsy Browne rallied in round seven. The pace slowed again and Browne’s jab reappeared. In round ten, Browne floored Chagaev with a massive right hand and then pummeled him until referee Stanley Christodoulou stopped it! Browne becomes the first ever Australian heavyweight champion. Ortiz KOs Thompson in six; Vargas KOs Ali for WBO welterweight title WBA Interim Heavyweight Champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) scored a sixth round KO over local hero Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (40-7, 27 KOs) in a non-title clash on Saturday night at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. Ortiz dropped Thompson in rounds one and three, then put him down for the count in round six. Time was 2:29. Welterweight Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) scored an impressive ninth round TKO over previously unbreaten Sadam Ali (22-1, 13 KOs) to win the vacant WBO welterweight world championship. Vargas broke open an entertaining and close fight with an overhand right that dropped Ali at the end of round eight. Ali was still reeling in round nine and Vargas battered him to the deck again. The bout was finally waved off during Vargas follow-up barrage. The WBC Champion says he'll be ready to comeback in May, but is willing to wait for Crawford fight. Viktor Postol won his title by stopping Lucass Matthysse in October. Lucas Matthysse might be ready to step away. In Recent post on social media, the former jr welterweight contender said he felt unmotivated to continue his career as a professional fighter.
