In 2011, the year began with me still in my long time home, Los Angeles, California, and now, after a year full of changes, it’s winding down with me in my new home, Atlanta, Georgia. After an adventurous cross country journey, I’m still settling in and exploring the new terrain here, both literally and creatively, and I’m continually taking in the fresh spirit of this dynamic and historic city. So, here’s to new alignment! Today, 11|11|11, I offer you my latest Jazz Mixx, a selection of tunes I recently put together with inspiration taken from this new season. It’s a time for reflection and redirection, when I feel the wind in my wings, as the autumn breeze whips up the leaves, stirring an ever changing palette of colors, with greens turning gold, and delicious reds, as deep as fine wine, while trees dance in the breeze against crisp blue skies. "Seasons Change," opens with "Equinox," followed by a poignant and classic rendition of "Autumn Leaves," leading into a selection of songs inspired by the many moods of autumn. Sullen at times, it quickly turns to the sometimes sassy, often amusing attitudes evocative of the spirit of the season. It’s a bit frivolous, a lot of fun, and has a little flirt with the blues. The final track, a nod to my new home, features Ray Charles on Alto Sax with “The Spirit-Feel,” from his album, “In Person,” a live concert recorded on a rainy night in Georgia, at Atlanta’s Herndon Stadium (with WAOK Radio), May 28, 1959. Enjoy! Jazz Catt, October 31, 2011 Revised 11|11|11
