The Greek myths are amongst the greatest stories ever told, passed down through millennia and inspiring writers and artists as varied as Shakespeare, Michelangelo, James Joyce and Walt Disney. They are embedded deeply in the traditions, tales and cultural DNA of the West. You'll fall in love with Zeus, marvel at the birth of Athena, wince at Cronus and Gaia's revenge on Ouranos, weep with King Midas and hunt with the beautiful and ferocious Artemis. Spellbinding, informative and moving, Stephen Fry's Mythos perfectly captures these stories for the modern age - in all their rich and deeply human relevance. Members Reviews: Gripped Where does Mythos rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far? Loved this book so much. Total variety of stories and just Wonderfully told. With great jokes and an humanistic view of greek myths. Why buy the book when you can have Stephen Fry read it to you A fascinating feeling to the Greek myths. If, like me you dont have a classical education behind you, this is an excellent primer to Greek mythology told with all of Frys usual humour. Ill say this, those Greek gods and goddesses were a randy bunch. Thoroughly enjoyable book. I need more! Thoroughly enjoyed this witty and engaging narrative. I will admit a feeling of massive disappointment though, when the stories just ended at Midas and I discovered that there was no mention of well known tales such as those of Hercules, Icarus, Oedipus, Electra, or the War of Troy. Stephen mentions that if he had covered these stories too the book would've been too long; well I'm hoping he'll read this and see me imploring him now to pleeeease write a part 2 and include the rest! His written style is so lovely to follow, I'm bitterly sad he's not retelling me the whole lot. I've tried reading books of Greek Mythology before, and so often find them dry and hard to follow. This book flowed beautifully. I'm sad it ended. Please write another one Stephen!!! *weeps melodramatically and sacrifices a cow for the muse of writers* MYTHOS - A gift of a book from The Gods This book is bar far one of the best reads of this genre I've had the pleasure to lend my ears to or cast my eyes upon. Stephen Fry is one of the top Three of my favourite authors and this book has shifted him to number Two. An awesome, spellbinding, captivating book that draws you in and has you laugh, cry (in a manner of speaking) and certainly left me in awe and wonder about the Mythology as it is a subject I know and understand very little about. I bought the book because Stephen Fry is the author and nothing more but now, I've a whole new interest to discover and learn about. If Stephen reads these reviews at all, I cannot thank him enough for the wonderful NEW JOURNEY I'm about to embark on. In short - an awesome MUST READ Book!!! Very Entertaining. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. Stephen Fry delivers a masterful narration of stories which everyone should know and love. So much wisdom that is as relevant now as it was then.
