Jay's listeners say that when it comes to distracted driving, the thing that distracts them the most is arguing with JayMac on the air.
A Utah lawmaker wants tougher laws against driving with your cellphone in hand. State Rep. Carol Spackman-Moss says she wants drivers to keep their hands on the wheel.
Currently, according to Deseret News, law bans motorists in Utah from using a cellphone or laptop to send texts, emails or instant messages. Drivers can't dial phone numbers, access the Web, take or view pictures or video, or enter data into a mobile device. Motorists can, however, still use their hands to dial during a medical emergency or when reporting a safety hazard criminal activity.
Under the new law, law enforcement will be capable of pulling drivers over for the sole reason that the driver is talking while holding their device.
Spackman-Moss’ proposal comes after a study conducted by the University of Utah for AAA found in-car technology, including devices that allow hands-free phone calls, still take drivers' attention off the road for more than 24 seconds.
Motorists under the proposed law would be punished with a $100 fine if they are caught talking with their device in hand while driving.
