In his first start of 2015, Ruiz jumped on Godfrey from the opening bell and punished Godfrey on the ropes for most of round one. That set the tone for the fight as Ruiz continued to deal the pain and Godfrey continued to receive it. Scores were 80-72 across the board. Ruiz retained his NABF title. “He wouldn’t fight back, but I did get good work for eight rounds,” said Ruiz, who will return to the ring on October 24 in Omaha, Nebraska, on Top Rank’s big Terence Crawford vs. Dierry Jean card. Kassi gave Breazeale all he could handle, but judges weren’t giving Kassi anything. Scores of 97-93, 98-92, 100-90 didn’t reflect the fight. Judge John Westeterp turned in the absurd 100-90 score.
